Sane was surprisingly left out of Germany’s squad for the summer tournament in Russia this summer despite enjoying a fine season for City.
His Premier League displays earned him the PFA Young Player of the Year award as the 22-year-old secured his first silverware.
Germany’s early exit from the tournament led to claims the City man should have been in Joachim Low’s squad, which seemed to lack pace in attacking positions.
As City prepare to defend their Premier League title, Guardiola says he wants Sane to prove more people wrong.
The City boss stated: “Leroy has to accept that this decision may make him stronger. He’s so young and in two years it is another European Championship and then in four years another World Cup.”
“I think it’s the past now. The national trainer decided what’s the best for the national team.”
Guardiola went on to add: “He has the chance to show the national team from Germany and first of all us – he has another season to show his quality.”
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich chief admits Sane has plenty of room for improvement at City as he looks to build on last season’s performances.
He added: “He has to improve his game, try to keep the levels he showed last season. We are so happy to have him here.”
In his second season at the Etihad, Sane made 27 starts for the Citizens and scored 10 goals compared with 20 starts and five goals in the 2016-17 campaign.
The former Schalke man also faces more competition for a starting role this season following the £60million capture of Riyad Mahrez from Leicester.
Sane will get his chance to shine in pre-season, with City to play Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool and Bayern Munich on their current tour of the USA before the Community Shield clash with Chelsea on August 5.
