Chelsea ace David Luiz says he is in love with the Blues’ style of play and hopes to challenge for titles under new head coach Maurizio Sarri.
The new boss at Stamford Bridge has only been in charge for a matter of weeks but he has already turned around the atmosphere at the club from a negative one to a much more positive approach.
Despite Chelsea’s disappointing defeat to champions Manchester City in the Community Shield final on Sunday afternoon at Wembley, Luiz is excited for the future under their new coach.
He says there is no reason – given enough time – that Sarri will not become as successful at Chelsea as Pep Guardiola is at Manchester City.
Luiz is looking for the players to grasp the new methods quickly so the can challenge for titles in the near future, if not this season.
“Guardiola is a fantastic coach and also Sarri is a fantastic coach,” Luiz told the Independent. “At the moment I’m in love with his philosophy, with the way he works, the way he is training, the way he loves football.”
Former boss Antonio Conte believed that Luiz could not play as one of two centre-backs, but that is how Sarri used him on Sunday and he is happy with the role.
“I won 17 titles in my career and only two in a back three,” Luiz said. “It doesn’t matter, you just have to understand the collective philosophy. If you win, it’s good – it’s always like that. I’m always happy to do my best to help the coach and the club.”
Chelsea start the new Premier League campaign with a trip to Huddersfield Town on Saturday.
