Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford insists Everton are good enough to finish in the top six this season under new manager Marco Silva.
The Toffees were disappointing last season and Ronald Koeman lost his job before the turn of the year. Former England boss Sam Allardyce steered them away from relegation and into the top 10 but the club’s fans were left disappointed in the end.
Everton’s board turned to Silva earlier this summer and the former Watford coach has already snapped up Richarlison and Lucas Digne. Other signings are expected and Pickford believes his squad are in a great spot to secure European football.
He told Sky Sports: “Yes, I think it is a massive club and the club is only going in the right direction.”
“We want to do better. We finished eighth last season and so we want to get better than seventh, get into the top six.”
“The Premier League is a hard league and it is hard to get a win in any game, but we want to please the fans and make the fans happy and the way to do that is win games.”
Pickford’s stock rose during the World Cup in Russia as he helped England reach the semi-finals.
After being linked with Chelsea, Pickford is now back in training and raring to go as he tries to help the club win their first game of the season against Wolves.
He added: “It is a quick turnaround but I am still fresh and raring to go.”
“I will go in on Friday and the first thing I will do is ask for some game-time on Saturday, hopefully to get the chance to play against Wolves the following week. I know myself that I will be more than ready so I can’t wait.”
