Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has called on his team mates to bounce back when they host Tottenham on Monday.
United did win their opening game of the season 2-1 at home to Leicester City but their performance left a lot to be desired.
Sunday’s outing brought about the first big shock of the Premier League season as Brighton beat the Red Devils 3-2 at the Amex Stadium.
Jose Mourinho’s men looked sluggish and even complacent as they fell two goals behind on the south coast in the first half.
The Red Devils did battle back and a penalty from Pogba at the death helped to make the scoreline slightly more respectable.
Next up is a home clash with Tottenham, who have won their opening two games, on Monday and United will need to massively improve if they are to get back to winning ways.
Much has been said about their title credentials this season and Pogba insists they can win silverware, but has stressed the importance of putting in a strong performance next time out.
Pogba said: “We always play for the shirt and the fans, this is not the result we or they wanted.”
“They should be very mad. We should be mad. Everybody is mad. We are mad.”
“The next game we want to change this. We want to be happy at the end of the game, with smiles on their faces and give the fans a nice weekend afterwards.
“We definitely don’t want to lose two games in a row, so we’re going to have to get ready and play much, much better than [on Sunday].”
“We’re not here just to play games and be in the Premier League, we are here to win, we are Manchester United, and that’s what we do.”
“We want to win trophies, that’s the mentality and the culture of the club. We didn’t do it and we are very disappointed.”
“There’s lots of games still and we have to stay positive, and by staying positive is how we will fight for a good result against Tottenham.”
