Leicester City boss Claude Puel has admitted the club would suffer a massive loss of confidence if defender Harry Maguire was sold before the end of the summer window.
The deadline of 5pm on Thursday is fast approaching and the flurry of late transfers is already starting to ramp up as clubs make a final push for the stars they want before the start of the Premier League season.
Manchester United were strongly linked with a move for Maguire a few weeks ago but it appeared the Foxes had done enough to deter the Red Devils.
However, the latest reports have suggested United boss Jose Mourinho will make one late push for the England defender, who was a standout performer for the Three Lions at this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
Leicester have already lost a key player in now Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez and Puel is determined to see their prized asset in Maguire remain at the King Power Stadium.
He told Sky Sports: “I think Harry is a very good player for us. It’s important to keep him and just a few days before the season it would be not a good thing for the squad, for the confidence for Leicester.”
“We lost Riyad Mahrez. We know the importance of this player. We cannot lose also a very good player for the team.”
Coincidentally, it is a trip to Manchester United first up for the Foxes on Friday night and Puel will be hoping to have Maguire in a blue shirt for the encounter.
